Hit $250K; here's my full quarterly review

marcus_t 2h ago 3.1k views

Two years ago I started this Roth IRA with $3,400 and a lot of skepticism. As of this morning the account crossed $250,000. I wanted to write up exactly how the last quarter went because the milestone posts that helped me most early on were the honest, number-heavy ones; not the screenshots with no context.

Q2 was 61 trades total. Win rate landed at 47%, which still feels strange to type, but the average winner was 2.3x the average loser so the expectancy stayed positive. Two trades alone accounted for roughly a third of the quarter's gains. That asymmetry is the whole game; if you cut winners early to 'lock it in' you quietly destroy the edge.

Biggest lesson this quarter: I stopped overriding the system. In April I skipped two SSL2 long signals because the news felt scary, and both would have been winners. After that I committed to taking every signal mechanically. My job is monitoring and funding, not forecasting.

Process notes for anyone earlier on the path: I spend about 20 minutes a day, all of it after the close. TradingView fires the alert, TradersPost routes it to my broker, and I just confirm fills and log the trade. No intraday screen-watching. That boredom is a feature.

Next checkpoint is the $500K reassessment. I'll re-run position sizing and decide whether to keep the aggressive SOXL allocation or shift part to the conservative variant. Happy to answer anything about the setup or the numbers below.

Congrats; and thank you for posting the actual win rate. The number of people who think you need 70%+ to make money is wild. Expectancy is everything.

This is motivating. I'm 60 days into paper and my instinct to skip 'scary' signals is exactly the thing I keep fighting. Good to hear it bit you too and you course-corrected.

The point about not cutting winners early can't be overstated. Curious how you're thinking about the SOXL vs conservative split at the $500K mark?

@calm_carla leaning toward keeping SOXL but capping it at a fixed percentage of the account and letting the rest sit in the conservative variant. Want to lower the drawdown swing now that the base is real money.
